HERS THAT ILLUMINE
AN INSTALLATION BY KATHRYN KELLY
Kathryn Kelly’s site responsive installation, combines, new works in digital collage, object-based assemblage, fabric sculpture and lens-based works, with the use of sound and lighting to create an immersive, otherworldly setting evoking the ceremonial. Drawing from historical research into old Europe’s pre-christian histories of woman in folk religion; ‘Hers that illumine’, through its signified works and imaginings, delves into the lost and repressed knowledge of Woman healers; there ceremonial rituals and incantation practices. Recognisable symbols and allegories are considered referencing the historical as well as their contemporary counterparts such as subculture motifs and personal narratives. The Installation acts as a site for potential both personal and universal, representing a place of ancestral knowledge, contemplation, healing and invocation.
